Best MW4 Settings

Ten minutes of settings before your first match is worth more than a better gun. These are the settings that actually change outcomes — vision, sound, and input — plus the step-by-step for turning off crossplay.

Settings that matter most

Field of View

  • FOV slider: 80-120 available on PC — Wider FOV = more awareness; 95-105 keeps targets a usable size
  • ADS FOV: Affected — Keeps peripheral vision during aim-down-sights on ARs

Movement — Omniflow

  • Omniflow: Learn it, don't fight it — MW4's new movement system rewards sliding/mantle-flow chains; spend 10 minutes in a private match before ranked queues matter

Audio

  • Preset: Headphones — Footsteps live in the effects channel; music/dialogue to 0-20%

Interface

  • Motion blur / film grain: Off — Clarity wins gunfights
  • Minimap: Expanded — UAVs and streak intel are free wins

How to turn off crossplay in MW4

  1. PS5: Settings → Network → Crossplay Off (system level). With it off you match only PS5 controller players.
  2. Xbox: Settings → General → Online Safety → Crossplay Off (system level).
  3. Nintendo Switch 2: system settings toggle, similar to Xbox.
  4. PC: no option — crossplay cannot be disabled on PC.

Crossplay is ON by default on every platform with full cross-progression (XP, Battle Pass, purchases via Activision account). Matchmaking is input-based: mouse+keyboard pool together, controllers pool together. PC players CANNOT disable crossplay; console players can. SBMM is used in casual public matches with a wider skill band than previous titles; Ranked Play has no SBMM (visible rating).

Frequently asked

How do I turn off crossplay in MW4?

Console only — PC players cannot disable crossplay. PS5: Settings → Network → Crossplay Off. Xbox: Settings → General → Online Safety → Crossplay Off. Switch 2 has a similar system-settings toggle. Expect longer matchmaking with crossplay off, since your pool shrinks to same-platform controller players.

Is there SBMM in MW4 casual multiplayer?

Yes — Activision confirmed skill-based matchmaking is used in casual public matches, but with a wider/looser skill band than previous titles. Ranked Play (arriving mid-Season 1) has no SBMM: it uses a visible skill rating instead.

What FOV should I use on console?

If MW4 exposes FOV on console (it did in recent titles), 95-105 is the popular balance of awareness and target size. PC players commonly run 100-120.
